What should you wear for breastfeeding in the mountains in winter?
The key is layering designed for breastfeeding—three layers that let you open just what you need:
- 1st layer: a long-sleevBreastfeeding t-shirt , made of thick cotton or a temperature-regulating fabric, that provides basic warmth and covers the tummy while breastfeeding.
- 2nd layer: a winter nursing sweater or a wool nursing sweatshirt with a discreet side zipper —this is the layer you open to nurse.
- 3rd layer: a down jacket or ski jacket that opens easily.
To breastfeed, simply unzip the side zipper of the second layer: your stomach remains covered by the first layer, and the down jacket draped over your shoulders protects your back. This way, you can breastfeed in just a few seconds, even on the terrace of a mountain hut in freezing cold weather.
What nursing clothes should you pack for a ski trip?
For a relaxing mountain getaway, be sure to pack a variety of items so you can mix and match:
- Several long-sleevedBreastfeeding t-shirts for the base layer.
- One or two warmBreastfeeding sweaters , ideally made of wool or knit.
- A nursing sweatshirt for cozy days at the cabin.

What's the best fabric to wear for breastfeeding while staying warm in the mountains?
Opt for warm, breathable materials: wool and knit for insulation, and thick cotton for the layer next to your skin. The key is to stay warm without overheating when moving from the freezing cold outdoors to a very warm cabin. Discover our entire collection of warm nursing clothes.
How can I breastfeed outdoors without getting cold?
A baby who is nursing is stationary: he or she gets cold quickly. Always choose a heated indoor space (a cabin, a mountain restaurant). If feeding outdoors is unavoidable, shelter from the wind, wrap your coat around yourself and your baby like a cocoon, and keep the feeding session short so you can finish it indoors. The side zipper on our garments minimizes exposure to the cold as much as possible.
How do you care for your winter nursing clothes?
To preserve the wool and the knit, wash on a gentle cycle in cold water or at 30°C—ideally on the wool cycle—and lay flat to dry to prevent the knit from losing its shape. Iron on the reverse side at a low heat setting. Refer to the instructions on the product sheet.
How long does delivery take?
Nursing clothes ordered from our store are shipped within 48 business hours. For items with personalized embroidery, allow up to about eight business days —be sure to order well in advance of your trip to the mountains.
What is the return policy?
You have 14 days after receipt to request a refund for an item that does not meet your expectations; exchanges are not permitted. Personalized items with embroidery cannot be returned or refunded. Please contact our customer service department in advance at bonjour@23maiparis.com.
