When winter sets in, our winterBreastfeeding sweaters keep you warm without compromising on practicality: thick knits, fleece sweatshirts, and high necklines—all featuring two side zippers so you can breastfeed without exposing yourself. Whether you’re outdoors or at home, you can breastfeed while staying protected from the cold.
What is a winter nursing sweater?
This is a nursing sweater designed for the colder months: it features a thick, cozy fabric, long sleeves, and a zipper opening on each side of the chest. To nurse, simply open the side you’re feeding from without lifting the sweater.
In winter, it’s the difference between feeding your baby in a warm place and feeding them with their tummy and back exposed to the cold air. For the warmest options, check out our warmBreastfeeding sweaters .
Which styles should you choose for winter?
The collection brings together the season's must-haves:
- knit sweaters: ALMA with a turtleneck, ASSIA with a round neck, COSSIMA with gold buttons, CHIARA with a zippered trucker collar;
- fleece sweatshirts: HEARTS, LOVE, LEOPARD, LOVE CLUB, MAMMA COOL;
- hooded sweaters for going out and staying in;
- embroidered designs you can customize, such as #MOMMY or LUCKY CHARM.
Prices range from about €34.50 for certain models on sale to €81. These knitwear items are often produced in limited quantities.
How can I breastfeed outdoors in the winter without getting cold?
Go for a three-layer look: a long-sleev Breastfeeding t-shirt , a nursing sweater over it, and then a coat that’s easy to open. When it’s time to nurse, just unzip the zippers on the same side—your stomach stays covered by the T-shirt, and your back by the sweater.
Drape your coat over your shoulders like a shawl when you're indoors, and keep it slightly open when you're outside. For all our tips, read our article on breastfeeding in winter: staying warm while nursing.
How does the opening on a nursing sweater work?
Each sweater has two zippers, one on each side of the chest. You can open the one on the feeding side with one hand while holding your baby with the other: this gives your baby direct access to your breast, and the rest of the sweater stays in place.
Once you're done nursing, you can zip it back up in a second. Thanks to the thick knit , it blends right into the knit fabric and goes unnoticed.
How do you layer your clothes in winter?
Choose a thin base layer (a long-sleeved nursing T-shirt), a warm sweater over it, and a loose-fitting jacket or coat. Since all our clothes have zippers in the same place, the layers open together.
Avoid collars that are too tight under your sweater, and opt for breathable fabrics so you don't sweat indoors. For more ideas, check out our layering options for nursing clothes.
How can you avoid getting too hot indoors?
In a heated room, a thick sweater can quickly make you too hot, especially with a baby snuggled up against you. Wear a thin base layer that you can keep on when you take off the sweater, or choose a trucker-style sweater with a collar that opens.
For base layers, check out our long-sleeve " Breastfeeding t-shirts " and our long-sleeve nursing tops.
Is the nursing sweater discreet in public?
Yes. The thick fabric effectively conceals the opening, and only the side where the baby is nursing opens up: from the outside, all you see is a bundled-up mom holding her baby close.
Whether you're at a café, in a store, or at a friend's house, you can breastfeed without feeling cold or having to isolate yourself. For more tips, read our article on discreet breastfeeding.
What size should I choose?
Choose your usual pre-pregnancy size. If you plan to wear one or two layers underneath—which is common in winter—choose the next size up to ensure a comfortable fit.
A slightly loose-fitting sweater also retains heat better than one that's too tight. The product pages list the model's height and size to help you choose the right one.
Can it be worn during pregnancy and after breastfeeding?
Yes. By choosing a size larger, our sweaters provide room for your belly during a winter of pregnancy, and then transition seamlessly to breastfeeding thanks to the zippers.
Once you've broken them in and zipped them up, they're just like any other sweater—ones you'll pull out every winter.
Is a nursing sweater a good winter gift?
Yes, it's a particularly useful baby gift for a mom who gives birth in the fall or winter: she'll use it every day for months—and long after that.
For seasonal ideas, check out our Christmas gift ideas and our selection of gifts for new moms.
How do you care for a winter nursing sweater?
Wash it at 30 °C on the delicate or wool cycle, inside out with the zippers closed, ideally in a laundry bag. Dry the knit flat to help it retain its shape.
Avoid using a dryer, which can cause the fabric to felt knit, and never iron directly over embroidery. Specific instructions are provided on each product page.
How long does it take for the clothing to be shipped?
Clothing is shipped within 48 business hours. For items with custom embroidery, please allow up to about eight business days.
What is the return policy?
You have 14 days after receipt to request a refund for an item that does not meet your expectations; exchanges are not permitted. Personalized items with embroidery cannot be returned or refunded. Please contact our customer service team in advance at bonjour@23maiparis.com.
