Our maternity blouses accommodate your growing belly with soft, feminine cuts, and then continue to be useful after the birth thanks to their side zipper for nursing. One garment for both pregnancy and the first few months with your baby.
What is a maternity blouse?
A maternity blouse is a top designed with the expectant mother's body in mind: a looser fit around the belly, a fabric that adapts to changes in body shape, and a length that provides ample coverage well into the third trimester.
It looks just as good at the office as it does on the weekend, paired with maternity jeans or stretchy pants. To round out your wardrobe, check out our maternity tops and maternity T-shirts, too.
Why choose a maternity blouse over a regular top?
A classic top quickly becomes too short or too tight as your belly grows. A maternity blouse offers you:
- a flexible fit that allows room for your growing belly, month after month;
- comfort, with no tight elastic or uncomfortable seams;
- a feminine look that flatters the figure rather than hiding it;
- A second life after birth, thanks to the nursing zipper.
It's this dual purpose that makes it a smart purchase: you don't just wear it for nine months, but also throughout the entire breastfeeding period.
Can you breastfeed while wearing a maternity top?
Yes. Our blouses have a side zipper on each side of the chest. After the baby is born, simply open the side you’ll be nursing from: the baby can access the breast, and the rest of the blouse stays in place.
During pregnancy, the zippers stay closed and are barely noticeable. This gives you time to get used to the system before your first feedings. For other dual-purpose items, check out our maternity and nursing clothing.
How do you wear a maternity blouse?
For everyday wear, pair your blouse with maternity jeans and sneakers for a simple, comfortable outfit. For the office, opt for flowing pants and an open jacket that accommodates your belly without constricting it.
When it gets cooler, add a long vest or a cardigan, and a scarf for a pop of color. For bottoms, check out our maternity jeans.
Are maternity blouses suitable for work?
Yes, it's actually one of the most practical pieces to wear while pregnant. More dressy than a T-shirt, a blouse gives you a put-together look in meetings while staying comfortable from morning to night, even when you spend the whole day sitting down.
After maternity leave, it’s perfect for your return to the office: the side zipper lets you breastfeed or pump discreetly during your break. For more ideas, check out our nursing clothes for work.
When should you start wearing maternity blouses?
Many expectant mothers start wearing them as early as the second trimester, when their usual tops start to feel tight around the belly. But there's no reason you can't wear them sooner, just for comfort.
Their loose fit works just as well if you have a little belly as it does when you're just a few days away from your due date. If you're getting your winter wardrobe ready, be sure to check out our article "Being Pregnant in Winter: Tips."
Which colors should you choose?
Neutral colors (white, ecru, black, navy) go with everything and are a great choice for an office outfit. They pair effortlessly with jeans, black pants, or a skirt.
A more colorful or patterned blouse adds a cheerful touch to weekend outfits and draws the eye to the upper body. Ideally, you should have one or two of each so you can mix and match depending on your mood and the occasion.
What size should I choose?
Choose your usual pre-pregnancy size: the cut is designed to allow room for your belly. There's no need to go several sizes larger.
If you're unsure between two sizes, choose the larger one for more comfort toward the end of your pregnancy. The size guide on each product page will help you check your measurements.
What kind of lingerie should you wear with a maternity blouse?
During pregnancy, your breasts change as well: a wireless bra made of soft, flexible material is often the most comfortable.
If you choose a nursing bra now, you can continue to wear it after giving birth—these bras feature cups that open with one hand. Check out our selection of nursing bras.
Can you wear a maternity blouse after giving birth?
Yes, and that's the whole point. After giving birth, it takes time for the body to get back into shape: a loose-fitting blouse stays comfortable and hides the postpartum belly without constricting it.
Thanks to the side zipper, it becomes a true nursing top. And once you're done breastfeeding, it remains a pretty blouse to wear every day—you don't have to replace your entire wardrobe.
How do you care for your maternity blouses?
Wash your lab coats at 30 °C on the delicate cycle, inside out and with the zippers closed, to protect the fabric and the openings.
Do not iron until after the first wash; then iron on the reverse side at a low temperature. Avoid using a dryer and follow the recommendations listed on each product page.
How long does it take for the clothing to be shipped?
Clothing is shipped within 48 business hours. For items with custom embroidery, please allow up to about eight business days.
What is the return policy?
You have 14 days after receipt to request a refund for an item that does not meet your expectations; exchanges are not permitted. Personalized items with embroidery cannot be returned or refunded. Please contact our customer service team in advance at bonjour@23maiparis.com.
