What is a nursing shirt?

A nursing shirt looks like a regular shirt, but it has a double zipper opening—one on each side of the chest. To nurse, you don't need to unbutton it all the way: just unzip the side you're nursing from.

This is the perfect piece for moms who love put-together outfits, whether at work or on the weekend. For other more dressy tops, check out our chic nursing tops as well.

Why choose a nursing shirt over a regular shirt?

With a regular shirt, breastfeeding requires unbuttoning several buttons and exposing a large portion of the chest. A nursing shirt solves this problem:

  • quick access to the interior thanks to the side zippers;
  • True discretion: only the side where you're nursing opens;
  • an elegant look, suitable for both the office and special occasions;
  • a garment that can still be worn after breastfeeding.

This way, you can maintain a polished look without sacrificing practicality, even during unexpected feedings.

What styles of nursing shirts do you offer?

The collection features a solid-color nursing blouse that’s simple and timeless, as well as several embroidered and customizable styles: MILK, AMORE, ALPHA with your initial, or MUM OF with your children’s first names.

Embroidered designs make lovely gifts for newborns or Mother's Day. To see our full selection of customizable items, check out our personalized nursing shirts.

How does the opening on a nursing top work?

Each shirt has two zippers, one on each side of the chest. To breastfeed, simply unzip the side of your choice: your baby has direct access to your breast, and the rest of the shirt stays closed.

Once you're done nursing, simply zip it up with one hand. When zipped up, the zippers blend right into the shirt: no one would guess it's a nursing top.

How do you wear a nursing shirt?

For the office, pair your nursing blouse with straight-leg pants and loafers, or with a midi skirt. On the weekend, wear it with jeans and sneakers, tucked in or left open over a T-shirt.

When it's cool out, layer a V-neck sweater or a cardigan over it: the shirt's collar adds a structured touch. For a practical base layer, check out our basicBreastfeeding t-shirts .

Is a nursing shirt suitable for returning to work?

Yes, it's one of the best pieces for returning to the office. It gives you a professional look while allowing you to breastfeed or pump discreetly throughout the day.

Thanks to the zippers, you don't have to change clothes to use a breast pump: just unzip one side, then the other. For more ideas, check out our nursing clothes for work.

Is it okay to breastfeed in public while wearing a nursing top?

Yes, and it’s completely discreet. Since only the zipper on the nursing side opens, the stomach, back, and neckline remain covered: from the outside, all you see is a mom holding her baby close.

Whether you're at a restaurant, on a patio, or on a train, you don't have to look for a secluded spot or change your clothes. If you want even more privacy, simply drape a scarf over your shoulder. For more tips, read our article on discreet breastfeeding.

How does the customization of embroidered designs work?

For embroidered designs, you choose the text or initial when you place your order. If you don't specify anything, a default text will be embroidered (for example, "MILK" or "Milk Bar," depending on the design).

Each embroidery piece is made just for you: please allow a little extra time for delivery, and note that these personalized items cannot be exchanged or refunded.

Is an embroidered nursing shirt a good gift idea?

Yes, it's an original and practical baby gift, designed with the new mom in mind. A shirt embroidered with her initial or her children's first names becomes a one-of-a-kind piece that she'll wear while breastfeeding and long afterward.

Be sure to order a little in advance to allow for the embroidery time. For more ideas, check out our selection of gifts for new moms.

What size should I choose?

Choose your usual pre-pregnancy size: the cut allows plenty of room for your bust and postpartum body changes.

If you're unsure between two sizes, choose the larger one for added comfort, especially if you like to wear a layer underneath. The size guide on each product page will help you check your measurements.

Can you wear a nursing shirt during pregnancy?

Yes, when worn open over a T-shirt or top, it gives plenty of room for your belly in the later stages of pregnancy. When buttoned up, it’s perfect for the first few months.

And even after you're done breastfeeding, it's still a shirt in its own right—one you'll keep in your closet for a long time.

How do you care for your nursing shirt?

Wash your shirt at 30 °C on the delicate cycle, inside out and with the zippers closed. For embroidered styles, washing inside out also protects the embroidery.

Do not iron before the first wash; after that, iron on the reverse side at a low temperature, without placing the iron directly on the embroidery. Do not tumble dry.

How long does it take for the clothing to be shipped?

Clothing is shipped within 48 business hours. For items with custom embroidery, please allow up to about eight business days.

What is the return policy?

You have 14 days after receipt to request a refund for an item that does not meet your expectations; exchanges are not permitted. Personalized items with embroidery cannot be returned or refunded. Please contact our customer service team in advance at bonjour@23maiparis.com.
