Returning to work while breastfeeding requires, above all, the right outfits: practical, discreet clothing that makes it easy to pump at the office and breastfeed in the morning and at night. Here’s how to put together a wardrobe suited for your return to work.
What nursing clothes should you choose for when you return to work?
Opt for pieces with discreet openings that allow you to access your breast without undressing: our practicalBreastfeeding t-shirts and nursing tops easily slip into an office outfit. For a more dressy look, consider nursing shirts and nursing blouses.
How can you pump breast milk discreetly at work?
The secret is the side zipper: it provides quick access to the breast without having to take off the top, which is ideal for a quick pumping session that takes just a few minutes. Paired with a loose-fitting top or a jacket, it makes pumping as discreet as possible, even in a shared space. Discover our discreet nursing tops.
How can I schedule feedings around my childcare schedule?
The principle is simple: breastfeed in the morning before leaving and in the evening when you return, and leave pumped milk for feedings while your child is in daycare. The morning feeding maintains milk supply and creates a moment of connection before you part ways; in the evening, offer the breast as soon as possible. This approach, known as partial mixed feeding, works very well over the long term.
How can you stay elegant and professional while breastfeeding?
Today’s nursing clothes no longer look “medical” at all: they feature flattering cuts, high-quality fabrics, and openings that are invisible when closed. A nursing blouse under a blazer, a Breastfeeding dress for meetings: you’ll look impeccable at the office while still having easy access for the breast pump.
How Can You Maintain Your Milk Supply When You Return to Work?
The idea is to stimulate your breasts as often as your baby would nurse if he or she were there. During work hours, pump your milk regularly—usually every 3 to 4 hours —to build up a supply for the next day. In the morning, evening, at night, and on weekends, breastfeed on demand. A slight decrease in milk supply during the first few weeks is normal and temporary; if it persists, consult an IBCLC lactation consultant.
How can we prepare for the transition before resuming operations?
Plan a few weeks in advance: Introduce the bottle or cup (offered by someone else) about 3 to 4 weeks beforehand, build up a supply of milk 2 weeks in advance, and, if possible, plan for half-days during the first few days. As for your wardrobe, try on your nursing outfits in real-life situations before the big day so you can feel confident when the time comes.
How do you care for your nursing clothes?
To preserve the softness and shape of the fabric, wash on the delicate cycle at 30 °C, inside out. Iron inside out on low heat and air-dry whenever possible. Refer to the instructions on each product page.
How long does delivery take?
Nursing clothes are shipped within 48 business hours. For items with custom embroidery, please allow up to about eight business days —be sure to order well in advance of your return to work.
What is the return policy?
You have 14 days after receipt to request a refund for an item that does not meet your expectations; exchanges are not permitted. Personalized items with embroidery cannot be returned or refunded. Please contact our customer service team in advance at bonjour@23maiparis.com.
