Our warmBreastfeeding sweaters s are perfect for cold days: thick knits, fleece sweatshirts, and high necklines—all featuring two side zippers so you can breastfeed without exposing yourself. You’ll stay warm from start to finish during each feeding, whether you’re outdoors or at home.
What is a warm nursing sweater?
This is a nursing sweater designed for fall and winter: it's made of a thick, cozy fabric, has long sleeves, and features a zipper opening on each side of the chest for nursing.
With a regular sweater, breastfeeding requires lifting it up and exposing your stomach and back to the cold. A nursing sweater avoids all that: only the side you’re nursing from opens up. For our entire winter collection, check out our winterBreastfeeding sweaters .
What styles are included in the collection?
The collection brings together two main categories of warm clothing:
- knit sweaters: ALMA in ecru with a funnel neck, ASSIA with a round neck, CHIARA with a zippered trucker collar;
- sweatshirts: HEARTS, LOVE, LEOPARD, LOVE CLUB, MAMMA COOL;
- Customizable embroidered sweatshirts: #MOMMY, LUCKY CHARM.
Prices range from about €65 to €81, depending on the material and customization.
knit -knit sweater or sweatshirt: which one is warmer?
Both keep you nice and warm, each in its own style. The knit sweater is more dressy and can be worn both at the office and on the weekend; styles with a funnel neck or trucker collar also protect your neck.
The sweatshirt is more casual and fleece-lined, perfect for walks and days at home. For more knit, check out our Breastfeeding sweaters at knit.
How does the opening on a nursing sweater work?
Each sweater has two zippers, one on each side of the chest. To breastfeed, simply unzip the side you're feeding from: your baby can access your breast, and the rest of the sweater stays in place.
On some sweaters made of " knit," such as the ALMA, the openings may have slight irregularities due to the zippers being sewn onto the " knit." When closed, the zippers blend seamlessly into the sweater.
How can you stay warm while breastfeeding outdoors?
Wear a Breastfeeding t-shirt as a base layer under your sweater: when you unzip the sweater, your stomach stays covered by the T-shirt. Since the zippers are in the same place, you unzip both layers on the same side.
Keep your coat open or draped over your shoulders while breastfeeding. For more tips, read our article “Breastfeeding in Winter: Staying Warm While Breastfeeding.”
How do you wear a warm nursing sweater?
An ecru or navy knit sweater can be paired with straight-leg jeans and ankle boots for a chic look, or with flowing pants for the office. Sweatshirts with slogans go well with sweatpants or jeans and sneakers.
Add a scarf and a coat that's easy to open when you go out. For more ideas, check out our layering options for nursing clothes.
Can you customize a nursing sweater?
Yes, for embroidered designs such as #MOMMY (“MUM OF” above hearts) or LUCKY CHARM (an initial with a small heart), you specify the text when placing your order.
These items require time for embroidery and cannot be exchanged or refunded. For other styles, see our customizableBreastfeeding sweaters .
Is the nursing sweater discreet in public?
Yes, and even more so than a T-shirt: the thick fabric hides the opening well. Only the side where you're nursing opens up; the rest of the sweater stays in place.
Whether you're at a café, in a store, or at a friend's house, you can breastfeed without feeling cold or having to expose yourself. For more tips, read our article on discreet breastfeeding.
What size should I choose?
Choose your usual pre-pregnancy size. If you plan to wear a T-shirt underneath, or if you like loose-fitting sweaters, choose the next size up.
The product descriptions list the model's height and size, which is helpful for you to get a sense of the fit. For embroidered items, be sure to check your measurements carefully: they cannot be exchanged.
Can you wear it while you're pregnant?
Yes. Sweaters and sweatshirts have a comfortable fit that leaves room for your belly, especially if you go up a size. You can start wearing them as early as the winter of your pregnancy.
You'll be able to use the zippers right from the very first feedings. If you give birth in the winter, it's also a great item to pack in your hospital bag.
Can you continue to wear it after breastfeeding?
Yes. Once the zippers are zipped up, it's just like any other sweater or sweatshirt—one you'll keep wearing every winter.
That's what makes it a long-lasting purchase: it stays in your closet long after you've weaned.
How do you care for a nursing sweater?
Wash your sweaters at 30 °C on the delicate or wool cycle, inside out with zippers closed. Dry the knit flat to prevent it from losing its shape.
Avoid using a dryer, and never iron directly over embroidery. Specific instructions are provided on each product page.
How long does it take for the clothing to be shipped?
Clothing is shipped within 48 business hours. For items with custom embroidery, please allow up to about eight business days.
What is the return policy?
You have 14 days after receipt to request a refund for an item that does not meet your expectations; exchanges are not permitted. Personalized items with embroidery cannot be returned or refunded. Please contact our customer service team in advance at bonjour@23maiparis.com.
